Fired up University of the Philippines shoots for a taste of the solo lead on Saturday when it clashes with University of the East in the UAAP Season 82 men’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Riding the crest of their morale-boosting upset win over fancied Ateneo de Manila University, the Fighting Maroons has the momentum in their 9:00 a.m. encounter with the Red Warriors.

The game will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183, iWant and via livestream.

Banking on the impressive debuts of newcomers John Lomibao and Louis Gamban, UP dismantled the Blue Eagles’ 25-21, 25-20, 25-22, on Wednesday to join other opening day winners Far Eastern University and three-peat-seeking National University. The victory also snapped the Fighting Maroons’ 12-game losing skid to Ateneo since Season 76.

The Red Warriors, on the other hand, are coming off a 10-25, 22-25, 23-25, defeat at the hands of the Tamaraws last Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Blue Eagles will try to bounce back from their stinging loss when they meet debuting De La Salle University at 2:00 p.m.

Ateneo will lean on Chu Njigha, Gian Glorioso and Kurt Aguilar as well as on Ron Medalla, who had a forgettable season-opener after scoring only two points, to turn the Blue Eagles’ fortune around.

All eyes will be on veterans Kiefer Reyes and Wayne Marco as they try to lead the Green Spikers to victory.
