With American imports Stephanie Niemer, who was named Most Valuable Player, and Katherine Bell anchoring the offense down the stretch, the Blaze Spikers hung tough en route to an impressive win in Game 3 of their best-of-three finals series for back-to-back titles.
It was Petron’s sixth overall title and third crown in the import-laden tournament.
It was also the first title for Bell and Niemer, who played with fire in their eyes to avenge their respective setbacks in 2018 and 2016, respectively.
This finals series was not for the faint of heart.
F2 Logistics took Game 1 in four sets to effectively spoil Petron’s bid of sweeping the tournament it first did in the 2015 All-Filipino Conference.
But after an open-forum session where the Blaze Spikers blurted everything out and assured each other that they will stick together no matter what, Petron stormed back and conquer Game 2, setting the stage for this thrilling Game 3 battle, where only the strongest will definitely survived.
Niemer also bagged the Best Scorer award while Bell got the Best Foreign Outside Hitter.
Petron playmaker Rhea Dimaculangan earned her third Best Setter honors while F2 Logistics star Aby Maraño won her eighth Best Middle Blocker recognition.
F2 Logistics’ Dawn Macandili was named Best Libero for the fifth time while teammate Ara Galang took the Best Local Outside Spiker award. PLDT import Grace Lazard pocketed the Best Foreign Middle Blocker and teammate Aiko Urdas got the Best Local Opposite Spiker plum. Cignal’s import Erica Wilson was named Best Foreign Opposite Spiker.
