Filipino boxer Nesthy Petecio clinched the gold medal in the 2019 AIBA Women’s Boxing World Championships, besting Liudmila Vorontsova at the latter's turf in Ulan-Ude, Russia on Sunday.

Petecio, who hurdled England's Karris Artingstall in the semifinals, outclassed her Russian rival in the women's featherweight class despite the latter's hometown advantage, according to a post by her nutritionist Jeaneath Aro.

The 3-time Southeast Asian Games silver medalist had to go through
5 opponents before facing off against Vorontsova.

She first edged Jucielen Romeu of Brazil, then beat Stanimira Petrova before squaring off against China's Qiao Jieru in the last 16.

After beating Qiao, she overcame Sena Irie of Japan and met Artingstall in the silver medal match.
