Far Eastern University ended its elimination round campaign with a bang after stunning three-time defending champion De La Salle University in a come-from-behind, 25-22, 13-25, 15-25, 27-25, 15-8, win on Sunday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Tamaraws finished the elims with a 9-5 win-loss record and ended an eight-game losing skid against the Lady Spikers since the Season 78 semifinals clincher.
FEU’s victory sent DLSU reeling to its fourth loss in 14 games, forcing the Lady Spikers to a playoff for the last Final Four twice-to-beat advantage against University of Sto. Tomas (10-4) on Wednesday at the same venue at 3:30 p.m.
Heather Guino-o showed the way for the Lady Tams with 24 points including 20 from spikes and played clutch in the fifth set.
Guino-o pushed FEU to an 8-4 lead in the deciding frame as the Lady Tamaraws sustained their momentum after surviving an extended fourth set. FEU pulled away with a 6-3 blast capped by a Guino-o off speed.
Aduke Ogunsanya saved a match point on a running attack before DLSU rookie Jolina Dela Cruz sent her attack wide as the Lady Spikers surrendered the match.
