Another game, another escape act for San Miguel Beer.

The Beermen survived defending champion Magnolia Friday, pulling off a 90-89 win at the MOA Arena in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.

Up one, San Miguel got a stop in the final 8.6 seconds of regulation to secure the victory.

The Beermen kept their hold of second place with a clean 4-0 mark, just behind fellow undefeated team TNT (5-0). The champs saw their three-game run snapped and Magnolia dropped to 3-2.

In a back-and-forth showdown, import Dez Wells put the Beermen up, 90-89, with 2:11 to go.

Both teams would never score again to end the game. Magnolia missed four shots in the final minute, including three in its final possession inside the last 32 seconds.

Wells led the way for San Miguel with 33 points, seven rebounds, five assists, four steals, and two blocks. June Mar Fajardo and Alex Cabagnot added 16 and 13 points respectively.

For the Hotshots, it was Romeo Travis that carried the bulk of the offense, going for 31 points.

Paul Lee, who chipped part of his tooth late due to a bad landing, managed 22 points for Magnolia in the loss.
