But as it turns out, those can be seen as blessings in disguise as when Elaine Duran finally got her chance at the spotlight, she never left it and was even named the winner of this year's "Tawag ng Tanghalan."

She won after performing a medley of Basil Valdez's hits and a thrilling rendition of Shanti Dope's rap song "Nadarang."



She defeated John Michael dela Cerna and John Mark Saga --the others who made the cut for the competition's top three. Dela Cerna placed third, while Saga finished second.

Duran won a P2-million cash prize, a house and lot, and a recording and talent contract, among other prizes.

The grand finals was held at the Caloocan Sports Complex.
